I found this helpful article about how to post animated GIFs on social media from Techsmith.com. For those you who don’t know what a GIF is, it stands for Graphics Interchange Format. GIFs are typically used to create simple animations or internet memes. Now if you were to ask me how to pronounce it, well that may be grounds for a debate. For the record (according to the creator), it is pronounced with a ‘J’ sound, not a ‘G’. I happen to be in favor of the latter but that’s just me. Each to their own! Anyway, here’s a quick overview but be sure to check out the article.
+ SUMMARY +
Facebook: does not support direct upload but you can upload it to a site like Giphy, your website, or blog and paste the URL into your Facebook post (make sure the URL ends in .gif).
Twitter: supports animated GIFs directly by upload or utilize the integrated GIF library.
Instagram: does not support importing animated GIFs, but you can post the MP4 video and it will auto-play and loop, just like an animated GIF.
LinkedIn: does not support animated GIFs at all; that includes status updates as well as profiles. You can convert a GIF to MP4 and post it that way but it will have a play button and will not loop.
