I am a believer. Mace Windu is not dead.
Mace Windu. Jedi Master. Master of the Order and one of the last members of the Jedi High Council. Wielder of the purple lightsaber. 2nd only to Grandmaster Yoda. Bad m-f!
In SW III: Revenge of the Sith, Mace Windu’s fate is met when he confronts Supreme Chancellor Palpatine (who is discovered to be the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Sidious) about his treachery and attempts to bring him into custody to stand trial for his actions. Moments later, Mace’s arm is cut off by Anakin Skywalker and then his body blasted out the window by Sidious using force lightning. It appears that Mace Window plummets to his death…or so we were to believe.
Samuel Jackson has publicly stated that even though it was George Lucas’ decision to kill off Windu, he honestly believes that there’s no reason his character couldn’t have survived the fall from Palpatine’s office window. George was later quoted as being in favor of his lack of demise.
Has the actor shared his views with the creative forces behind the Star Wars franchise? “Only George [Lucas],” says Jackson. “But George doesn’t have anything to do with it anymore.” And what was Lucas’ reaction? “George is like, ‘I’m okay with that. You can be alive.”
Personally, I think it would be INCREDIBLE to see Mace Windu (a.k.a. Samuel Jackson) make an appearance in Star Wars: Episode VIII. Granted if I do my math right, he should be 100+. But the fact of the matter is he is a powerful & wise Jedi and may possess the ability to prolong his life. Wouldn’t it be interesting if:
- in Episode VIII, we found out that Mace is still alive and has been helping Luke Skywalker help rebuild the Jedi Order.
- we find out Mace window has a robotic hand…just like Luke.
- if Mace is not alive in Episode VIII, would he have possessed the skills to become a Force Ghost? Would Luke be able to channel Mace (since we’ve only seen Force Ghosts of people that Luke has had a personal connection to)?
I agree along with my Star Wars fans that Mace Windu’s character could not have died so easily. Someone does not rise to a stature such as his without some resilency or a few tricks up his sleeve. Besides, we have seen other Jedi who have survived greater falls (not mention also with a severed hand).
