A great tool for introducing programming to kids (and some of us adults new to the field) is coming! Swift Playgrounds will be coming to iOS iPad users this Fall.
If you are not familiar with Swift, it is a programming language used for app development for iPhones, iPads, and other Mac devices. For you ultra-geeks, Swift is a “general-purpose, multi-paradigm, compiled programming language created for iOS, OS X, watchOS, tvOS, and Linux developed by Apple Inc. Swift is designed to work with Apple’s Cocoa and Cocoa Touch frameworks and the large body of extant Objective-C (ObjC) code written for Apple products.” ~ wikipedia.com
Swift Playgrounds is designed to introduce programming in a fun and interactive way. Through a series of tutorials, puzzles, and challenges, users will learn the basics of Swift as well as programming techniques along the way. Swift Playgrounds requires no coding knowledge, so it’s perfect for students just starting out.
